Poor Butters had a rough go with his ears this fall/winter. He was on 3 different antibiotics over a 5-6 week period. During the last antibiotic course, we were referred to Dr. Teoh (ENT specialist). He said the infection was clear, but that Marek's ears were full of fluid, to where he was sure he had some hearing loss. They tested his hearing, and sure enough he was not hearing well. So the decision was made to put ear tubes in. We couldn't wait for the day to arrive, because the poor little guy was digging in his ears non-stop leading up to the surgery.
Since Marek states he is hungry the moment he wakes up in the morning, I was dreading that part of it. But God worked it out beautifully for us - Marek woke up about 5 minutes before we had to leave to go to the surgery center, and he never said a word about it. He was far too fascinated with the new surroundings and things to explore.
He looked so darn cute in his little gown and slippers!
Much of the time waiting for them to take him away was spent taking self-portraits on my phone. Little Man loves looking at himself on cameras and in mirrors.
And he will spot and manipulate any set of buttons he can reach on any electronic device.
Marek was HILARIOUS after the Versed kicked in that they gave him. He got this dopey little look on his face and just kept doing this silly little giggle. It was making me laugh, but also dread some potential teenage moments.
Ellison was teasing Daddy, and acted angry that he was dropping her off at school that morning. She so badly wanted to come along for Marek's procedure.
Marek did great. He of course woke up inconsolable and out of it for about 10-15 minutes, but then calmed down. Dr. Teoh said they got a lot of fluid out, and he was confident he hearing would be much better. On the way home Bubba was calm and dopey, and ended up throwing up all the water he drank after surgery. I was hoping he'd take a little nappy on me, but he preferred trying to walk with a very unsteady gait, despite me trying to prevent him from doing so. But then he was pretty much back to normal after his nap that afternoon.
Nonne came to visit "The Big Guy" as she often calls him. He loves to go to her and sit on her lap. He often reaches for her. She brought him a little garbage truck that he thought was fun for us to put little crumbled up papers in.

On a side note, Marek had his check-up with Dr. Teoh on January 8 - his hearing is now in the normal range, and everything is looking good! Thanks be to God!
