So Ellison shocked the heck out of me and Jonathan on July 1. Though, she's always loved being in water, the last 2 years she's been VERY timid about getting her face wet, and didn't even want to attempt swimming without a floaty on or being fully supported by us. Well, this is the ONE time that we let peer pressure work to her advantage (I pray that strong will of hers kicks against the peer pressure arena before she's a teenager). Our friends, the Spencers, and their twins Cambree and Hudson, belong to our pool club, too. The twins are Ellison's age and have always been in the same Sunday school classes with her. The 2 of them have learned to swim, and often use goggles. As soon as Ellison hung around them for the day in the pool, and she saw them being little fish, she announced to Jonathan that she wanted her goggles, and she wanted to ditch her floaty. She started off clinging to the edge of the pool, and SLOWLY dipping her goggled face into the water more and more. After flailing her limbs in the water (and insisting she do it all by herself) for a little while, she then suddenly starting going under water and swimming some! We were completely shocked, and SO proud of her!!! This was HUGE for her! Since then, she has never turned back, and now dives for objects at the bottom of the pool (with the help of a little push since she floats so easy), does underwater somersaults, jumps in, and can swim short distances underwater!!! It has been the coolest transformation to watch. And just in time for her swim lessons which will start next week. What an incredible summer she's having.
