Ellison and I were in great need of a "date" where just the two of us could hang out. The week was full of tension as Ellison was acting out a lot again (like when Marek was born) toward me. I've come to know that's when she's starving for attention. So she'd been looking forward to Bunny Day at the Natural Science Center for weeks. Perfect - our outing was set. So we kissed our men goodbye, and off we went to start a day full of activity.
Ellison LOVED petting the bunnies this time. A far cry from the last time when she wanted nothing to do with them.
She thought it was cute that this bunny was wrapped up in a blankie like a little baby.
And as usual, she loves her some mascot-style animals. She was so excited to see the Easter Bunny. But then, as we were standing near the Easter Bunny, so pokes me and whispers, "Mom, look..." as she points to the Easter Bunny's shoes. "I think that's a person in there pretending to be the Easter Bunny." Right you are, my little lady.
Then it was face painting time. They had the laminated sheets of paper out with some examples of what the kids could choose from. So after very careful contemplation, Ellison chose a picture of a bunny. The "artist" Ellison was sitting with asked her if she could do the other bunny on the page. Ellison was quite adamant that she wanted the one she chose. After I carefully tried to persuade her to choose something else, since this chick clearly could not do that kind of bunny (why do you show it as something available then, people?), Ellison settled for a rainbow. Did that sound snotty on my part?
We ran into a few friends during our time there. One set of friends were Sophia and Evelyn, the twins that are in Ellison's dance class and that go to our church.
As much as Ellison loved the bunnies, she was most excited about getting to play in the play area. It's clearly been too long since we've frequented the place. I know she has really missed all of the outings I used to take her to regularly. Still trying to figure out how to do that while trying to do what's best for Marek and his needs, too.
At first, Ellison was very shy and wasn't interested in playing any of the kids' games they had in honor of Bunny Day. But after we were there a while, and she discovered she could get candy for participating, she kept asking to find more and more games. Wow, does she take after her mother.
Before the storms came through, we headed to the Chick-Fil-A drive-through for her fave meal of their french fries and some milk, which made her totally happy. I planned on the 2 of us going in to sit down together, but she wanted to stay at the Science Center longer instead. Then it was onward to more fun things...
