Oh, how quickly the time is going...
Little Bubba is such pure joy for all of us. He is still such a great baby, despite not being able to nail down a schedule. As much as we hate doing it, he is often made to deal with nap times on the run. He may whine a little when he's hitting the wall, but then will fall asleep for a catnap, only for about 20-30 minutes if we're not home, then wake up deliriously tired but happy and calm. It's nearly impossible to get him on a consistent predictable schedule. It's just different every day. Sometimes he naps great, other times not for too long. Sometimes it's 3 naps, sometimes it's 4. He's still a pretty darn good sleeper at night - usually going 9-11 hours, then gets a feeding and goes down for a while longer. Once in a while he decides to wake up at 1am, but it's rare.
At 5 months, Marek is still just such a sweet, smiley, happy baby. I love that he now giggles just by us making silly faces at him. He's completely infatuated with his sister. He does far better in the car when she's next to him - he stares at her most of the time, and when she looks at him or talks to him he just grins at her. She's always so sweet - we usually look back to find her holding his little hand during our excursions.
After a period of about 2 weeks of Marek suddenly not liking his cereal (and blowing raspberries to spit it out), I'm thrilled to report that he has taken a liking to his foods thus far. He loves his oatmeal the most, but likes his rice cereal and all of the veggies so far. He even loves to drink sips of water out of a sippy cup, and will even hold it himself. And I love when he sees his evening bottle coming, and wraps his little hands around it. He somehow always manages to sneak in his little thumb while he's drinking from the bottle or even when he's nursing. Yes, he is a sweet little thumbsucker, but only when he goes to sleep (or is trying to feed). When he's awake, his fingers and hands are always in his mouth. I cannot believe those little teeth haven't popped through yet!
He seems to be partial to his little stuffed monkey that the Copelands got him, and also the little monkey snuggly that my friend and co-worker, Tamara, got him. He also really likes this thin, circular rattle with a squeaky chicken on it. It's so fun to watch him grab objects now and manipulate them more. He LOVES to have you sing songs using his hands, like "Pat-A-Cake", "The Wheels on the Bus", and "If You're Happy and You Know It" - he just grins and studies your face the whole time. :-)
He wants to sit up as much as possible now, and if you place him in something that he should be reclining in, he'll curl his little torso right up trying to sit up instead. If you lay him down to play, he rolls right over onto his tummy and stays there. Though he's done it before, he doesn't regularly roll back over onto his back.
He still loves bathtime, and loves playing with the water coming out of the faucet. At the pool, he is completely straight-faced when you put his feet or legs in the water - no crying, no whining, no smiling.
He's a lucky little boy, getting greeted by his sister when he wakes up in his crib. The moment she knows he's awake, Ellison gets permission to go in his room, then she climbs into the crib with him, where he's just all smiles for her. She is constantly mushing on him (amidst several warnings that she can't squish his cheeks that hard, and that she needs to kiss him lightly so as to not knock him over), and he doesn't seem to mind one bit. :-)
I wish the first few months weren't such a blur, Marek, because you bring so much joy and love into our lives! What a blessing these 5 months have been!
