Marek's First Bday!

Our sweet baby boy isn't a baby anymore!!!  Oh my, where did the past year go?!  Boy, are we so thankful and glad that he is a part of our family.  We just couldn't love him more.  Sissy claims she can't remember being an only child. :-)
Well, after Marek had been sleeping so poorly lately, we thought, "Ahhh!" because he actually slept through the night.  So come his birthday morn, we were so excited to go to him with his birthday balloon singing to him.  When he woke up, he was crying, which is unusual - he always wakes up talking and playing.  We quickly woke up Sissy to join us, then we walked into his room singing, "Happy Birthday" with the balloon and video camera in tow.  Poor Bubba was doing the whole "I'm smiling, but I'm miserable," as his face would constantly shift between a smile, then a frown like he was gonna cry.  His little cheeks were red.  Poor Mareny was completely soaked with pee, and come to find out he had a fever of 102.2! :-(  Oh, we felt so bad that hinney was sick for his very first birthday.

Putting on a smile anyways...

He got an early morning bath since he was so soaked, and we thought it might help him feel better, too.

Marek's contantly doing this little face...

Having a birthday breakfast...

So we didn't get to celebrate much on his actual birthday, which was just as well since he was sick.  Except for our early morning, we never got to be all together again for the rest of the day.  On Wednesday evenings Ellison has AWANA, so we're always separated.  Muzzer took a trip to the pediatrician's for his birthday, since his fevers got up to 104.  I wanted to make sure his ears were ok, and sure enough they were, so he got that lovely diagnosis of viral syndrome.  The one highlight for me was him falling asleep in my arms with that high fever.  LOVED IT.  There are so many times I want to hold him when he sleeps.  It takes everything for me to be able to put him down in his crib when he's all snuggled up on me.

So at the ripe old age of 1, Marek is definitely a toddler now.  As I write this, he's now walking everywhere.  He started doing it regularly about 2 weeks after his birthday.  He still won't walk much in shoes, though - they seem to throw him off.  :-)  I wrote a lot about him at 11 months, so there isn't a ton to update on.  I'm in love with how he says, "Chee-o" now for Cheerios.  He's starting to use utensils to eat more and more, but still will revert back to good ole hands after a while.  He's finally getting used to drinking cow's milk, as he hasn't been a big fan the first few weeks.  We actually reverted back to using formula for his bottles because he wasn't digging it.  But now he's drinking it more, and I'm slowly cutting out his bottles.  As of this morning, I just cut out his morning bottle, and so he'll just be left with his bedtime one.  That makes me so sad.  I love bottle time snuggles, and so does Sissy.  She's constantly wanting to feed him.

Marek's really starting to communicate well.  He says a ton of words, some of them perfectly well, and some of them his own version, but we can tell what he wants or doesn't want some of the time now.

He absolutely loves being outside.  If I happen to be holding him, and have to grab something out in the garage, he blows a complete fit when we come back in the door.  He contorts his little body in the direction of the door and gets so upset.  We've been going on a lot of walks this week with the weather being so nice, and he rides his new little bike (see Christmas post) while Ellison rides hers.  He loves being in it.  And as soon as we get back, he wants to tinker around in the garage.  He also loves sitting in the front seat of the van with me while Ellison has her dance class weekly.  He completely lights up when he sees I'm opening the front driver door with him in my arms, and I have to get real creative to get him out without a fight when our time is over.

Marek has come to love ANYTHING snuggly - like plush, soft blankets, pillow pets, Ellison's giant bear, etc.  He will just bury his face in them with the biggest grin, and roll his body around.  When he sees Ellison's giant bear, he walks toward it, then just falls face first onto it while laughing and rolling around.  He now has a fave blanket that he sleeps with (thanks, Schwanke fam - a gift at birth) because it's so soft.  We lay it out smooth for him to lay his face on when he sleeps on his tummy, and he just snuggles right into it.  He's not attached outside of sleeping with it, yet, but I'm sure that will come soon.

Marek still loves doing the "Itsy Bitsy Spider".  He will sometimes do the spider on his own, but more often than not, he cups his hands around the outside of mine, and grins the whole time we do the motions to the song.  Today, he even did part of the song by himself.

We are so happy to have had this year with you, Marek.  You have filled our hearts and our home with so much love.  It's exciting to watch you grow, and we can't wait to see what your future holds.  We love you, Bubba!
